Ben Hunt is an independent town and country planning consultant based in Nottingham, but operating over the whole of the East Midlands (Nottinghamshire, Derby and Derbyshire, Leicester and Leicestershire, Lincoln and Lincolnshire, Northampton and Northamptonshire), and indeed the rest of the UK.
I have worked in planning for over 24 years, and am a chartered Member of the Royal Town Planning Institute. In 2004 I set up Ben Hunt Planning Ltd, having previously worked in Local Government for Nottinghamshire County Council, and in private practice for David Tyldesley & Associates.
I have a very wide range of experience, covering enforcement and monitoring, dealing with planning applications, and formulating development plan policies. I have appeared at public inquiries and hearings, examinations into plans, and been a planning expert witness in relation to court cases. This has also covered the full range of size of schemes - from single house extensions, up to nationally important proposals.
I see it as an advantage to have worked as a consultant extensively for both public authorities as well as private individuals and business - planning should be about being able to see the picture from all angles, and seek solutions which satisfy all parties, if possible.
Specialist areas include minerals and waste planning.
..... life before planning ......
I obtained a class 2(i) BSc Honours degree in Natural Environmental Sciences from the University of Sheffield in 1986, and spent three years as a research assistant at the University of Liverpool. I was co-author of the book "Trees in the Urban Landscape" - which might still be available if you search hard!
